Note that you can stop other Spider-related services (those ones whose name begin with
Spider
) in a
similar way. This procedure is seldom needed, but may be helpful if you are having unusual troubles
uninstalling or re-installing the Spider software properly.
6.2.2 Storage space considerations for video recording
To make certain that the Spider software can successfully perform the video surveillance and recording
tasks as required by your application, it is highly recommended to prepare a sufficient amount of storage
space (typically a hard disk drive) beforehand. Even though the Spider hardware and software
transmits
and
stores
highly compressed MPEG4 video, the required storage space amount may reach
hundreds of
gigabytes
and even
tens of terabytes
. The estimation is based on many factors, such as a
number of
cameras
, their
collective frame rate
,
video quality
settings,
type of interface card
that was used for
capturing and encoding, and of course,
recording duration
.
The following tables will help you to estimate the
worst-case
numbers for
continuous
(non-stop)
recording,
for
NTSC
video at
100% quality
,
depending on the
interface card
that was used for encoding
the video data being recorded.
IFinally, note that you can save a considerable amount of storage space (typically down to
one-third
or
less of the values given above) if you use the
alarm-triggered recording
mode. The recording can be
triggered by either the
video motion detection
from any camera or traditional analog
alarm sensor
connected to the system.
Another variant of saving storage space is to enable the function of File Storage resource
Delete old data
file on space limit
. If this function is enabled during the recording process, and there is not enough
storage space for recording a new volume, the oldest version will be automatically deleted.
