Installing two-way radios and mobile

phones

WARNING

The electromagnetic radiation from two-

way radios can interfere with the vehicle

electronics if two-way radios are manip-

ulated or retrofitted incorrectly. This could

jeopardize the operating safety of the

vehicle. There is a risk of an accident.
You should have all work on electrical and

electronic components carried out at a

qualified specialist workshop.

WARNING

If you incorrectly operate two-way radios

in the vehicle, the electromagnetic radia-

tion may interfere with the vehicle elec-

tronics, for example if:

the two-way radio is not connected to an

exterior antenna

the exterior antenna is not correctly

mounted or is not low-reflection

This could jeopardize the operating safety

of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident.
Have the low-reflection exterior antenna

installed at a qualified specialist work-

shop. Always connect two-way radios to

the low-reflection exterior antenna when

operating in the vehicle.

The operating permit may be invalidated

if the instructions for installation and use

of two-way radios are not observed.

In particular, the following conditions

must be complied with:

only approved wavebands may be used

observe the maximum permissible out-

put in these wavebands

only approved antenna positions may be

used

Excessive levels of electromagnetic radia-

tion can cause damage to health. Using an

exterior antenna takes into account current

scientific discussions relating to the possi-

ble health hazards that may result from elec-

tromagnetic fields.

The following antenna positions may be used

for the correct installation of two-way

radios:

Front roof area

;

Rear roof area

Use Technical Specification ISO/TS 21609

(Road Vehicles – EMC guidelines for instal-

lation of aftermarket radio frequency trans-

mitting equipment) when retrofitting two-

way radios. Comply with the legal require-

ments for add-on parts.

If your vehicle has installations for two-way

radio equipment, use the power supply and

antenna connections intended for use in the

basic wiring. Be sure to observe the manu-

facturer's additional instructions during

installation.

Deviations with respect to wavebands, max-

imum transmission outputs or antenna posi-

tions must be approved by smart.
