3. Fluence - measured in J/cm
2
. Select based on the vessel size, depth, and skin type.
- For smaller vessels, use higher fluence (1064 nm or 755 nm).
- For larger vessels, use lower fluence (1064 nm or 755 nm).
- For deeper vessels, use higher fluence (1064 nm preferred).
- For darker skin types, use lower fluence (1064 nm preferred).
4. Pulse Duration - measured in milliseconds (ms). Fixed at 3 ms for 755 nm; adjustable for
1064 nm. Select based on vessel size and color.
- For smaller diameter, lighter vessels, use a shorter pulse duration (1064 nm or 755
nm).
- For larger diameter, darker vessels, use a longer pulse duration (1064 nm
preferred).
- For darker skin types, use a longer pulse duration (1064 nm preferred).
- Pulse durations shorter than 10 ms increase the likelihood of purpura when treating
vascular lesions (755 nm and 1064 nm).
5. Window Temperature - measured in °Celsius. The sapphire window provides pre-, parallel,
and postcooling.There are 5 temperature options: 4°C, 8°C, 12°C, 16°C, and 20°C.
- 4°C or 8°C is advised for increased epidermal protection and patient comfort.
- For larger, darker vessels and vascular birthmarks (more hemoglobin), use 4°C.
- Precooling protects the epidermis by reducing initial skin temperature.
- Parallel cooling during the laser pulse protects the epidermis while the laser is firing.
- Postcooling extracts heat from the tissue to help prevent epidermal injury.
- Longer pre- and postcooling is recommended when heating larger, darker vessels.
6. Repetition Rate - measured in hertz (Hz). Number of pulses per second with footswitch
depressed.
- For increased epidermal safety, use single pulses (0.0 Hz) with pre- and
postcooling.
