Changing the Deck Belt
WARNING!
Shut the engine off and remove
ignition key before removing the cutting blade(s) for
sharpening or replacement. Protect your hands by
using heavy gloves when grasping blades and
pulleys.
WARNING!
The V-belts found on your tractor are
specially designed to engage and disengage safely.
A substitute (non-OEM) V-belt can be dangerous by
not disengaging completely. For a proper working
machine, use factory approved belts.
All belts on your tractor are subject to wear and should be
replaced if any signs of wear are present . To change or replace
the deck belt on your tractor, proceed as follows:
Lower the deck by moving the deck lift lever into the bottom
1.
notch on the right fender.
Carefully remove the belt from around the electric PTO
2.
clutch. See Fig 7-5.NOTE: If there is too much tension on the
belt for it to be easily removed from the electric PTO clutch,
carefully insert a 3⁄8” drive ratchet wrench (set to
tighten
)
into the square hole found in the left-hand deck idler
bracket and pivot it toward the tractor’s right side to relieve
tension on the belt. See Figure 7-6.
WARNING!
Avoid pinching injuries. Never place
your fingers on the idler spring or between the belt
and a pulley while removing the belt.
Remove the belt guards by removing the self-tapping
3.
screws that fasten them to the deck. See Figure 7-6.
Carefully loosen, but do not remove, the deck idler pulleys.
4.
Remove the deck belt from around all pulleys, including
5.
the deck idler pulleys and the electric PTO clutch (units
with electric PTO).
Route the new belt as shown in Figure 7-7.
5.
Retighten idler pulleys.
6.
Reinstall the belt guards removed earlier and remount the
7.
deck to the tractor.
