Contents and Sizing Dimensions — Refer to Table 1.

The sizing dimensions as noted in Table 1 refer to the I.D. as the inside 

diameter at the smallest location. O.D. is the outside diameter of the 

cannula. Length is the distance from the patient side of the neck plate to 

the patient end of the tube, measured on the centerline.
Indications For Use

This device is intended for use in providing tracheal access for airway 

management.
WARNINGS:

•  Carefully read these instructions prior to use. These instructions 

are applicable only to the Shiley pediatric tracheostomy 

tube with TaperGuard™ Cuff (PCF), Shiley long pediatric 

tracheostomy tube with TaperGuard™ Cuff (PLCF) and Shiley 

neonatal tracheostomy tube with TaperGuard™ Cuff (NCF).

•  Sterile only if the protective package is not open, damaged or 

broken. Do not expose to temperatures above 120°F (49°C). 

Do not resterilize.

•  Handle with due care to prevent user contamination prior to use.

•  When using a laser or electrosurgical device in conjunction 

with this or other tracheal tubes, care must be taken to avoid 

contact with the tube. Such contact, especially in the presence 

of oxygen-enriched mixtures or nitrous oxide containing 

mixtures, could result in rapid combustion of the tube with 

harmful thermal effects and with emission of corrosive and toxic 

combustion products, including hydrochloric acid (HCl).

•  Replacement tracheostomy tubes should be kept at the patient’s 

bedside.

•  The cuffed neonatal and pediatric tracheostomy tube (NCF, PCF 

and PLCF) should never be plugged or capped because there 

may not be sufficient airway for the patient to breathe even with 

the cuff completely deflated.

•  Excessive amounts of lubricant can dry on the inner surface of 

the tracheostomy tube resulting in either a plug or a clear film 

that may partially or totally block the airway.

•  Each tube’s cuff, pilot balloon and valve should be tested by 

inflation prior to use. If dysfunction is detected in any part of 

the inflation system, the tube should not be used.

•  Do not overinflate the cuff. Ordinarily, cuff pressure should 

not exceed 25 cm of H2O in pediatric patients. As safe cuff 

pressure in neonatal patients may be less than 25 cm H2O, 

closely monitor cuff pressure under a physician’s guidance.
