10. Detection Principle
Hot-wire Semiconductor Sensor
The sensor is constructed of a metal oxide semiconductor that is sintered in a ball on
a platinum wire coil that functions as both a heater and electrode. When combustible
gas is absorbed by the surface of the metal oxide semiconductor, the electrical
conductivity changes due to an oxidation reaction.

Explosion-proof Structure: A structure applicable to an electrical device that prevents the
electrical device from acting as a source of ignition and
igniting explosive gas in the vicinity.
Intrinsically Safety: A structure that has been confirmed through ignition tests and other
testing to not ignite explosive gas due to electrical sparks or hot parts
during normal operation or accidents.
Non-hazardous Location: A location that is thought to have no chance of creating an
atmosphere where a mixture of explosive gas and air would
reach the explosion limit in both normal and accidental
conditions.
