Bonding the cable shield to the motor
frame
The shield of the motor cable must be electrically bonded to the motor
frame. The preferred method of achieving this is to connect the shield to
the ground terminal of the motor, as shown in the following two
diagrams.
For motors that have a power
input socket, a metal cable
plug should be used and the
cable shield make contact
with the shell throughout its
entire circumference (full 360°
termination). (A typical plug is
shown opposite.)
If a full 360° termination is not
possible (due to a plastic plug
being used, or the motor
having separate terminals and
cable glands), a link no
longer than 25mm (1 in)
between the shield and the
terminal should be
used.
