Features of the meter
Security
There is provision for serialised security seals in combination with “sacrificial” plastic seals. The meter
is completely sealed to prevent tampering. Tamper can be detected even if supply is disconnected
(optional). The user Interface incorporates a shortcut key to display the number of tamper conditions
detected.
The meter has an internal register of correctly entered meter specific tokens to prohibit the replaying of
tokens. Each meter has a unique meter security key. The terminal cover has a tamper detection
feature. The meter can be commissioned at installation (optional).
Reliability

The UIU has a proven reliability of more than one million operations per key.
Pick and place technology using surface mounted components ensures a high degree of
manufacturing accuracy, repeatability and reliability. The meter accuracy is maintained over the life of
the meter.
Protection
Each phase is protected by a 5kA / 5kV surge arrestor. The electronic circuits are designed to
withstand 420VAC for up to 48 hours. The meter is equipped with thermal protection on the terminals,
enhancing product safety and the meter’s life cycle. The product is designed to suspend electricity
supply under power and current overload conditions with a short time over current protection of 3.0kA
and thermal protection
The BEC62(08) incorporates three 100A latching relays to connect / disconnect the consumer supply.
The following features are employed as protection features for both the consumer’s appliances and
the meter.
Power, unbalanced power and current overloads:
The supply will be restored automatically 30 seconds after the trip event was registered.
If the trip event persists then the consumers supply will be disconnected again.
After 5 attempts to reconnect, the consumers supply will be disconnected for 30 minutes.
Thermal, over voltage and under voltage trips:
The supply will be restored when the trip condition no longer exists for a period of 15 seconds.
Under and over voltage measurement
This setting is a trip threshold that suspends electricity supply when an under or over voltage condition
exists. The supply is suspended until the voltage conditions return to normal. The trip threshold can be
configured for both under and over voltage supply conditions. The average voltage is calculated every
fifteen seconds.
