Contact-Operated Tools
All tools with safety triggers (for contact-operation) are labelled with a downwards point-
ing equilateral triangle. Do not try to use a tool with such a label if the safety trigger is
missing or appears to be damaged.
1. Sequential operation
• Sequential operation requires that the operator hold the muzzle of the gun against
the workpiece with the safety trigger depressed before he/she pulls the trigger.
• In order to drive in more nails the operator must release the trigger and lift the tool off
the workpiece before repeating the procedure described above.
• This type of nail gun is better for more accurate nailing, e.g. nailing frames, etc.
• This sequential operation allows for the exact positioning of fasteners without
the chance of driving in a second nail on the recoil, as described in “2. Contact-
operation” below.
• Sequential operation is a safer system because it is not possible to drive in a second
nail by mistake if the tool is in contact with the workpiece – or something else – whilst
the operator is holding the trigger.
