SECTION 7:
ROUTINE SERVICE REQUIREMENTS
7.01 Routine Maintenance & Inspection
WARNING
There are extremely dangerous voltage and power levels present inside this product. Do not attempt to open or repair
unless you are a qualified electrical tradesperson. Disconnect the Welding Power Source from the Mains Supply Voltage
before disassembling.
Welding equipment should be regularly checked by a qualified electrical tradesperson to ensure that:
• The main earth wire of the electrical installation is intact.
• Power point for the Welding Power Source is effectively earthed and of adequate current rating.
• Plugs and cord extension sockets are correctly wired.
• Flexible cord is of the 3-core tough rubber or plastic sheathed type of adequate rating, correctly connected
and in good condition.
• Welding terminals are shrouded to prevent inadvertent contact or short circuit.
• The frame of the Welding Power Source is effectively earthed.
• Welding leads and electrode holder are in good condition.
• The Welding Power Source is clean internally, especially from metal filing, slag, and loose material. If
any parts are damaged for any reason, replacement is recommended.
Routine Inspection, Testing & Maintenance
The inspection and testing of the power source and associated accessories shall be carried out in accord-
ance with Section 5 of AS 1674.2 - 2007: Safety in Welding and Allied Processes-Part 2 Electrical. This
includes an insulation resistance test and an earthing test to ensure the integrity of the unit is compliant
with Cigweld's original specifications.
If equipment is to be used in a hazardous location or environments with a high risk of electrocution as out-
lined in AS 1674.2 - 2007, then the above tests should be carried out prior to entering this location.
A. Testing Schedule
1. For transportable equipment, at least once every 3 months; and
2. For fixed equipment, at least once every 12 months.
The owners of the equipment shall keep a suitable record of the periodic tests and a system of tagging,
including the date of the most recent inspection.
A transportable power source is deemed to be any equipment that is not permanently connected and
fixed in the position in which it is operated.
B. Insulation Resistance
Minimum insulation resistance for in-service Cigweld Inverter Power Sources shall be measured at a
voltage of 500V between the parts referred to in Table 7-1 below. Power sources that do not meet the
insulation resistance requirements set out below shall be withdrawn from service and not returned until
repairs have been performed such that the requirements outlined below are met.
