•
STOP or SLOW the leak using
materials and tools on board.
•
Proceed to land if possible or use
distress signals to indicate the need
for assistance.
If a leak is beyond containment to the point
that capsizing or flooding of a vessel is
imminent:
•
Immediately ensure all passengers are
equipped with a PFD or Lifejacket.
•
If at all possible, stay with the craft.
The larger size of an overturned
vessel is an advantage for rescuers to
see and usually provides for a more
timely rescue.
•
Once in the water, ensure all
passengers are accounted for.
•
Take appropriate actions to ensure
hypothermia risk is minimized.
•
Exhibit distress signals to indicate the
need for assistance.
Towing
Your CCBL1 is a lightweight pleasure craft
and is not designed for towing. Towing
places stresses on the boat, hardware, and
lines. Priority must be placed on safety
when towing objects to ensure that any
loads towed do not pose a risk to either the
vessel towing or the item/vessels being
towed. It is the responsibility of the boat
owner/operator to ensure that the operation
of the vessel is done within the confines of
safe practices.
As the CCBL1 is not designed for towing,
damage to personal property, personal
injury, or death can occur when using this
boat for towing.
Person Overboard
When someone is first found to be
overboard, the most important thing to
remember is - Don’t Panic.
Ensure that the person is equipped with
adequate flotation by throwing them a
lifebuoy or PFD.
Throw the overboard person a lifeline. A
person overboard moving at only 3 knots
(5.6kmh/3.5 mph) will be 15 meters (50 ft.)
away from the boat in only 10 seconds.
If the boat is powered, try maneuvering the
vessel downwind of the person overboard
and recover them from your windward side,
so as to not have the boat pushing over top
of them, forcing them under.
Assist the person overboard to reboard the
vessel, taking caution to ensure that the re-
boarding is done in such a manner as to
keeping the vessel upright without
capsizing.
In the Water:
Stay Afloat!!! – Look for and find adequate
flotation.
Hypothermia - Hypothermia is a drop in the
body’s normal core temperature (37°C /
98.6°F).
•
Early Stage Hypothermia has the
victim shivering with slurred speech.
They are conscious but withdrawn.
