5.3.1 Hydraulic connection
Switch off the voltage to the lift truck and perform a few movements of the distributor levers in order to drain
the oil from the truck’s system. In order to connect the device to the truck’s hydraulic circuit, it is necessary to:
1. remove the closure plugs
2. connect the tubing of the truck’s system.
3. tighten the joints.
5.4 Use
When the Horizontal Gripping Device is used for the first time, certain preliminary checks must be performed:
That no part of the Device has been damaged during transport and handling.
That all the disconnected parts of the device are present.
Ensure that the forkholder plate is clean and does not have any cracks or ruptures.
Ensure that the width of the fork holder plate is greater than or equal to the external distance between the
device’s upper brackets.
Check that the bolts are tightened.
Check that the connections have been made properly.
Check the status of lubrication of moving parts (see chap. 6 Maintenance).
Check that all non-fixed parts are free to move without hindrances.
Check that there are no blow-bys in hydraulic connections between the truck – device.
Check that the device command lever moves properly.
Check the slider, the clearances and the plate.
When the device is loadless, perform a number of opening and closing and side shift (if present) cycles,
leaving approximately 10 seconds with the lever activated at the end of the run.
Check that the device’s control devices conform to the UNI ISO 3691/83 standard.
Check that the truck is fitted with the commands and levers required to command the device, in the
driver’s position. Otherwise, contact the truck manufacturer.
The Device’s relief valve supplied has been calibrated in the factory.
Perform gripping and lifting tests with the maximum load to be moved and side shift tests. Check that gripping
force is appropriate to the load to be handled, that the arms open and close in synchronisation and with the
appropriate speed. If necessary, regulate the valve as shown below.
The minimum and maximum hydraulic
capacities of the truck are 15 l/min and
35 l/min respectively for the horizontal
gripping device fem2 and 20 l/min and 40
l/min for the horizontal gripping devices.
The truck must only be used by
authorised, qualified personnel trained
for lifting and handling loads.
