USB OPERATION
USB AUDIO PLAYBACK
To playback music via the USB input and a connected computer, it is necessary to use a “media
player” such as iTunes or Windows Media Player at minimum. The USB input is capable of
extremely high resolution audio, up to 32 bit/ 384kHz PCM, or DSD up to 256. iTunes nor Windows
Media is capable of such resolutions on their own. To do so, it is necessary to install add-on
software or an entirely different media player capable of taking advantage of The DAC-200ts
capabilities. Examples such as Amarra, JRiver, Foobar 2000, Media Monkey, etc., can playback high
resolution files. However, please know your media player software thoroughly to know what its
limitations may or may not be as it relates to setup, PCM resolutions, DSD capability and supported
file types.
Make sure drivers (PC) have been installed by following the instructions above, under
USB
Requirements
and

, then do as follows:

(ST)” USB Audio 2.0
is selected as the
Output Device,
and that
ASIO
(recommended) is
set as the
Audio Output Mode
of your media player.
NOTE:
ASIO/KS/WASAPI/and Direct Sound Modes are all supported.
(4)
Playback music through the media player software.
NOTE:
Some media players have Smartphone and tablet Apps that allow you to control the PC or
MAC software via the Smartphone or tablet. Otherwise, all control must be done via the computer.
DSD PLAYBACK
This requires the media player to use the DoP protocol. DoP stands for “DSD over PCM”. This
method is necessary as USB standards are incapable of sending raw DSD data. Therefore, this
method was created as a means to “package” raw DSD data in a PCM wrapper. Once transmitted
over USB it is unwrapped as pure DSD. It is NOT converted to PCM prior to transmitting or within
the DAC-200ts at any point. Therefore, it is necessary to check your media player settings to enable
sending DSD via DoP. Upon playback, the display screen of the DAC-200ts will show either
“DSD64”, “DSD128”, or “DSD256.”
NOTE:
TruBit™ Upsampling Sample Rate Converter does NOT engage for the USB source. Since
USB playback is dependent on media player software of the PC or MAC, you must select any desired
upsampling within the chosen media player software itself.
