Cause 2 :
The camera may have been recognized as another device under the
following circumstances (Windows only).
• The Å camera Å was Å connected Å to Å the Å computer Å before Å the Å USB Å driver Å was Å
installed.
• The Å [Scanners Å and Å Cameras] Å icon Å or Å the Å [Scanners Å and Å Cameras] Å folder Å cannot Å
be Å found Å in Å the Å [Control Å Panel] Å or Å the Å [Printers Å and Å Other Å Hardware] Å window.
• Your Å camera Å model Å name, Å [Canon Å Camera] Å or Å a Å camera Å icon Å does Å not Å display Å
in Å the Å [Scanners Å and Å Cameras Å Properties] Å dialog Å or Å the Å [Scanners Å and Å
Cameras] Å folder.
Solution:
Delete Å the Å device Å with Å the Å following Å procedures. Å

1. Display Å the Å [Device Å Manager] Å dialog.
Windows Vista: Click Å the Å [Start] Å menu, Å [Control Å Panel], Å [System Å and Å
Maintenance], Å [System], Å and Å Task Å list Å [Device Å Manager].
Windows XP: Click Å the Å [Start] Å menu, Å [Control Å Panel], Å [Performance Å and Å
Maintenance], Å [System], Å [Hardware] Å tab, Å and Å the Å [Device Å Manager] Å button.
Windows 2000: Click Å the Å [Start] Å menu, Å [Settings], Å [Control Å Panel], Å [System], Å
[Hardware] Å tab, Å and Å the Å [Device Å Manager] Å button.
2. Click Å the Å Å symbol Å beside Å the Å [Other Å devices], Å [Portable Å Devices] Å and/or Å
[Imaging Å devices] Å category.
Your Å camera Å model Å name Å or Å [Canon Å Camera] Å will Å display Å in Å these Å categories Å
if Å it Å is Å being Å recognized Å as Å an Å “other” Å device.
3. Select Å your Å camera Å model Å name Å or Å [Canon Å Camera], Å right-click Å and Å select Å
[Delete].
You must be authorized as a Computer System Administrator to delete
devices.
There are other potential reasons for the problem if the “Other
devices”, “Portable Devices” or “Imaging devices” categories do not
appear or your camera model name or [Canon Camera] does not appear.
Proceed to Step 5, and temporarily quit the procedures.
