Also consider the location of the solar panel and antenna and how the cabling
of those two items will connect into the CRVW3 enclosure.
Mount the enclosure with the sensor glands, antenna connector, and ground lug
facing downward. This minimizes water exposure (rain, snow, etc.) to those
locations, and helps ensure that the inside of the enclosure remains dry.

8.2.5 Installing the CRVW3 Antenna
When using a radio option on the CRVW3 (CRVW3-RF451 or CRVW3-
RF407), you should carefully consider the kind of antenna to use with the
device. You should ensure that it can communicate properly with the
applicable remote CRVW3 devices, radio repeater stations, and the radio base
(p. 51)
, and Section
, for more information about the configuration of radio
networks.)
A small “whip” or “dipole” antenna may be connected directly to the enclosure
bottom (pn 14204). These are used for testing or for short distance
communication links. For longer distances, a higher gain, externally cabled
antenna is usually necessary. These antennae require mounting hardware (a
pole, etc.) separate from the CRVW3. Be sure to order an antenna cable long
enough to connect between the antenna mount and the mounted location of the
CRVW3.
If the CRVW3 communicates with only one other radio station or device, use a
directional antenna (such as a Yagi, pn 14205 for the -RF451 option, pn 14201
for the –RF407 option), and position the antenna so it points directly at the
remote station. If the CRVW3 communicates with more than one radio station
or device (i.e., when it is configured to operate as a repeater station), an
omnidirectional antenna (aka “omni”) should be used (pn 14221). Raising the
antenna to a higher elevation may improve the signal reception and
transmission.
Antenna connections that are exposed to the environment should be protected
with self-vulcanizing tape (pn 21212). A surge suppressor kit (pn 31314) is
also recommended when using cabled antennas. This will protect against
