Using Juno
Gastrointestinal System
Juno produces realistic bowel sounds. Auscultation of normal and abnormal bowel sounds can be
performed with the StethoSym utilizing the RFID tags. For further information, see
Using the
StethoSym in this user guide. In addition, gastric lavage and gavage can be administered.
Gastric Gavage and Lavage
Juno has a gastric reservoir that allows for simulated nasogastric and orogastric placement for
gavage and lavage. Before each use, ensure the reservoir has been drained completely. The reservoir
should be primed with 150 ml of fluid before performing gastric suction.
Nasogastric Tube Placement for Gavage
To practice gastric gavage, you only need to prime or fill the gastric reservoir if you want gastric
secretions to be aspirated (suctioned back).
The gastric reservoir is located in the manikin’s abdominal cavity.
Note: When using the gastric reservoir, place the manikin in an upright position with a minimum of
30° head elevation (not supine). This eliminates the risk of fluid contamination into the airway
system.
To practice gavage and lavage techniques:
1. Attach a syringe filled with distilled water to the gastric fill and drain port located on the
manikin’s right side.
