4.2 TROUBLESHOOTING THE NETWORK
This section describes troubleshooting procedures you can perform to
diagnose and correct problems with the TRMIM-62A and other MIMs in
the MMAC. The following procedures usually help resolve problems
typically encountered with network installations:
• Check the status of the LEDs on all MIMs in the MMAC. See
Section 4.1 for a complete description of LEDs for the TRMIM-62A
and the user guides for other MIMs in the MMAC for descriptions of
their LEDs.

Ensure the ERR light on the TRMIM-62 and the equivalent
system-status LED(s) on other MIMs in the MMAC are not lit.
Remove and then reinsert MIMs to help resolve the problem.

Check the 16Mb LEDs on MIMs to verify the speed settings – all
MIMs composing a common ring must be running at the same ring
speed. MIMs running at a different ring speed are bypassed by
default from the common ring. See Section 2.4 for information
about specifying the ring speed for the TRMIM-62A.

Verify that LNK and PEN LEDs on the TRMIM-62A and the
equivalent port-status LED(s) on other MIMs indicate that stations
attached to their corresponding ports are inserted into the ring or
able to insert into the ring.
• Check that MIMs are securely installed in and fastened to the MMAC.
If necessary, correctly reinsert each MIM and then tighten the knobs.
• Be sure that the Token Ring stations and the MMAC are adequately
powered in accordance with their respective power-requirement
specifications and are powered on.
• Trace the ring path through the network to ensure that there are no
physical layer problems. While tracing the ring:

Check the cable connections at MIMs, patch panels and wall
plates, and Token Ring stations.
Are all connectors inserted fully into or secured to ports?

Check the installation of the Token Ring network interface cards
in Token Ring stations.
Are the network cards correctly configured and installed?
