6.2
Filling the mixing hopper
WARNING
Risks of personal injury due to crushing, entanglement, and entrapment may
arise if improper filling of the mixing hopper results in inadvertent contact
with driven mixing auger.
Use only suitable equipment for filling the mixing hopper. Suitable equipment in-
cludes:
Tractor with front loader,
Wheel/farmyard loader.
Personnel must not fill the mixing hopper manually unless they are prevented from
inadvertently reaching into the mixing hopper.
Personnel are forbidden to operate on the same level as or above the filler opening
of the mixing hopper.
CAUTION
Risks from malfunction of components caused by overloading the machine!
Observe the maximum payload of the machine and the order in which the individual com-
ponents need to be filled.
The individual components should be able to move freely inside the mixing hopper when
the mixing augers are under power. The machine may overload if components become
caught at the discharge opening and form clogs.
Overload has a negative impact on the performance and service life of the machine. Dam-
age arising from overload is not covered by warranty.
When detecting blockage of material, briefly reverse the mixing auger's direction of rota-
tion.
The total quantity of fodder that can be mixed and reduced in one mixing hopper
load varies with the following factors:
capacity of the mixing hopper,
total dry mass of the components to be mixed,
structure (stalk length and quality) of the individual components,
type and sequence during filling,
driving power of the motor.
The filling quantity for one mixing hopper load may also vary with the different types
of components to be mixed. Avoid overloading the mixer when filling the mixing
hopper. In the event of overload:
the individual components cannot be mixed uniformly,
driven components may sustain mechanical damage,
the cutting blades of the mixing auger may become bent.
To avoid high starting torque levels, we recommend that you fill the mixing hopper
with the mixing auger under power.
