FRE risers, housing one standard synchronous DIMM connector; these risers are used for
entry memory configurations requiring only one memory bank.
Note: It is not possible to install memory DIMM’s directly on the system planar.
The system memory is organized in memory banks made up of four memory DIMM’s each,
one per memory riser.
Minimum memory bank capacity is 256M Bytes (4x64M Byte memory DIMM’s).
Maximum memory bank capacity is 1G Byte (4x256M Byte memory DIMM’s).
Maximum memory capacity is 8G Bytes (8x1G Byte memory banks).
The synchronous DIMM’s have the characteristics summarized below:

Memory DIMM’s belonging to the same memory bank must be plugged into the same
connector on each memory riser; for example: memory bank 7 will be made up of 1 memory
DIMM plugged in position 7 on each memory riser.
Here are some additional configuration rules to be followed to obtain the best performances.
Breaking these rules will decrease performances but will not bring to a loss of memory.
• Install an even number of memory banks
• Install memory banks in couples of homogeneous capacity; each couple of homogeneous
memory banks must be installed in contiguous slots, starting from slot 7-6 and then 5-4,
3-2 and 1-0
• Considering the amount of memory you want to use, prefer using as many couples of
memory banks as you can, provided that you do not compromise a possible future
upgrading.
