Installation of the Buckingham Ladder Lock System
Step 1
:
Place the ladder against the pole at approximately a 4 to1 ratio (for every 4 feet of ladder length, the
base should be out 1 foot) Fig. 3
Step 2: Open the hook and loop
fastener of the storage bag mounted between the two lower rungs and remove
the stabilizing strap. Fig. 3
If the technician prefers, the quick connect buckles on the lower two straps
can be released allowing the bag to hang more vertically from the rung.
Step 3: Wrap one end of the strap around extension ladder side rail directly beneath
the 5
th
. rung from the bottom and secure the snap to the D-ring. Be
sure the snap is facing out. Fig. 4
Step 4: Wrap the strap around the pole one and one-half times, crossing over itself on
the backside of the pole at about the same level as the 5
th
rung. Fig 5
Step 5: Wrap the other end of strap around the opposite ladder side ra
i
l beneath the
5
th
. rung and secure by attaching the snap to the D-ring. Snap facing out.
Fig. 6
Step 6: Stand facing the ladder, tighten ladder stabilizing straps by pulling the free
ends of the straps on each side through the cam buckle using equal force on
both sides.
Stability Test-
Once the strap is securely tightened, test the stability by climbing
to the 4
th
rung, apply a slight twist to ensure ladder base is stable.
When properly tightened, side rail movement should not exceed 3
inches. If it is not stable, descend ladder and repeat Step 6 and
the stability test.
Removal-
To remove the Buckingham Bottom Strap, stand on the
ground facing the ladder at its base, lift both side rails slightly and move the ladder base approximately 6-8 inches
towards the pole. This movement will place slack in the stabilizing strap which will allow the technician to release
the snaps from the D-rings and remove the strap from the side rails and pole. After removing the strap, simply roll it
up and place it back in the redi-access storage bag and secure the hook and loop closure.
Inspection of Bottom Strap
The Bottom Stabilizing Strap must be inspected when first received and prior to each use. The entire
strap assembly must be inspected whenever there is suspicion of physical damage such as, but not
limited to cuts, abrasions, excessive stress, contact with acids, solvents or other chemicals.
Inspect the cam buckle, snaps and D-rings to ensure they are working properly. Check for cracks or
breaks in the metal and ensure springs are working freely.
Through inspection, if any defects are found, the Bottom Strap must not be used and replaced
immediately. The defective strap should be cut in half to prevent accidental reuse and disposed of in
accordance with local procedures.
Inspect the bag and straps for cuts, holes or loose stitching and the buckles for any broken parts.
