16-channel Conditioning Amplifier Type 2694 –
User Manual

The
Help
button
in the taskbar is a useful function. To use it, simply right-click
on the button in the task bar, release, and right-click again on the area you would
like explained. This Help option works both on- and off-line.
Example Setup:
Attach some transducers to a Type 2694 amplifier (assume that the
system is set up to measure DeltaTron transducers). At the input sockets, the left-
hand (red) LED switches off, leaving a single, green LED lit. This shows that a trans-
ducer is attached and ready for measuring. To identify those transducers with TEDS,
and with the Transducer Setup tab clicked, go to the taskbar and click on the
Update IDs
button
. The Setup view automatically updates with the serial
number, type number, sensitivity and units of all attached, TEDS-compatible trans-
ducers, while displaying which input sockets have transducers attached. Transduc-
ers without TEDS need to have their parameters entered manually.
Channels not in use or not required for measuring can be disabled by right-clicking
on the relevant channel in the
Channel
column of the Setup view, and selecting
Disable
from the drop-down list. The
Send Parameters
button must then be clicked
to notify the Type 2694 amplifier. Once a channel has been disabled, all the LEDs
above the corresponding input socket on the instrument are switched off.
Now click on the Amplifier Setup tab. Parameters here are similarly adjusted by
right-clicking on individual cells, choosing an option from the scroll-down list, and
clicking the
Send Parameters
button on the task bar afterwards.
Overloads are covered in the
Overload
column where a cell’s colour can be blue or
red. A blue cell implies that there has been no overload (since the last reset), while
a red cell implies that there is a current overload. A small, black triangle in the top
left-hand corner of a cell implies that an overload has occurred (called a latched
overload) since the last reset. The
Reset Overloads
button
on the taskbar resets
all overloads. Channels that have been disabled or are not in use have cells col-
oured blue.
To see when overloads have occurred, go to the Menu bar and click
View
,
Message
Log
to get a window displaying overload time, port number, amplifier number, chan-
nel, error code and description, i.e., a full history of the RS–232 link.
The File Manager view can be used on- or off-line, but the latter allows you to create
different setups for Type 2694 amplifier. In the Menu bar, click
File
,
New
. From Link
view, drag a previous setup and drop it into your new data file in the File Manager
view. Now, drag this file onto the Setup view and proceed to edit the setup. Once
edited, right-click on the file and save. You can then drag the file back to the Link
view and drop it on the instrument icon. Clicking on the
Send Parameters
button in
the task bar loads the new setup to the instrument.
Amplifier Setup Menu
The parameters in the
Amplifier Setup
menu directly affect the measured output
and must therefore be set up before measuring.
