The Use of Control Software BZ 5291
Introduction
Start the program and the main window appears, divided into three sections – the
File Manager, Link and Setup views (see Figures 1.4 – 1.6). These are central to
controlling Type 2694’s operation. Initially, a smaller window appears within the
main window where you must select the COM port(s) connecting Type 2694 to your
computer. Choose a port and click
OK . This turns on the instrument which powers
up in a few seconds.
All active instruments can be seen in the Link view as a pull-down menu. Clicking on
the
COM port icon within the Link view shows the instrument(s) attached to it,
and clicking on an instrument shows the number of channels it has.
To edit setups online, use the mouse to drag an instrument from the Link view to
the Setup view. The Setup view has two tabs/pages called ‘Transducer Setup’ and
‘Amplifier Setup’. Each page comprises rows/columns of cells with the rows corre-
sponding to individual channels and the columns corresponding to different channel
parameters. Column width is adjustable by dragging the column edges with the
mouse and extra columns can be inserted and defined by going to the Menu bar and
selecting
Options , Columns , Customise , where a set list offers limited additional
parameters.
When you want to change a parameter’s value, right-click on the relevant cell to get
a pull-down menu where you click appropriately to change value. Upon doing this,
the cell’s background colour turns from white to yellow signifying the change. To
notify the instrument of changes, you must click on the
Send Parameters button
in the taskbar. Upon doing so, the cell’s colour changes initially to green and
subsequently to white once the command has been registered by the instrument.
(Clicking on cell colours in the task bar details the meaning of the various colour
codes in use throughout the program). Multiple changes can be made simultaneous-
ly by right-clicking on one cell and selecting the
Set all channels option before
clicking the Send Parameters icon.
