– Torque spark plug to 12 N•m (106 lbf•

in

).

BATTERY

At least 8 V is required for proper operation of the
ignition system (however 10.2 V is required for en-
gine starting). Check battery voltage and condi-
tion. Refer to

CHARGING SYSTEM

section.

IGNITION SWITCH

2. OFF position
3. ON position (lights on)

Test

All Models except Europe

As a quick test to check if ignition key works prop-
erly, turn switch ON. If tail light turns on (assuming
bulb is good), ignition switch is good.

European Models

As a quick test to check if ignition key works prop-
erly, turn it ON. Press horn button. If horn sounds
(assuming it is good), ignition switch is good.

All Models

If test failed, perform the following tests.

Remove front cover. Refer to

BODY

Disconnect ignition switch connector with the
RED wire.

Measure voltage between RED supply wire and
battery ground.

vmr2006-079-010_a

If reading is lower than battery voltage, test wiring
harness. If voltage is good, test switch.

Use a multimeter and measure the resistance be-
tween the following wires.
