Received colour fax prints
only in B & W.
Replace the colour ink cartridges that are empty or nearly empty,
and then ask the other party to send the colour fax again. (See
Replacing the Ink Cartridges
, page 128.)
Left and Right margins are
cut off.
Turn on Auto Reduction.

Horizontal lines appear in
Text or Graphics.
Clean the print heads. (See

, page 121.) If you
clean the print heads five times and the print has not improved, call
Brother or your dealer for service.
Phone Line or Connections
Dialling does not work
Check for a dial tone. Change
TONE/PULSE
setting. (See
Setting
the Dialling Mode (Tone/Pulse) (Except for the Nordic Countries)

page 18.) Check all line cord connections. Check power cord
connection. Send a manual fax by lifting the external telephone’s
handset, and dialling the number. Wait to hear fax receiving tones
before pressing

The machine Does Not
Answer When Called
Make sure the machine is not in MANUAL mode. Check for dial
tone. If possible, call the machine to hear it answer. If there is still
no answer, check the telephone line cord connection. If there is no
ringing when you call the machine, call your Telephone Company
to check the line.
No dial tone on the external
telephone’s handset
Lifting the external phone’s handset—
OR
—Press any dial pad key
then
Mono Fax Start
. If you hear no dial tone, check telephone
line cord connections at the machine and wall socket. Check that the
external telephone is connected to the machine correctly. Test the
wall socket with another single line telephone. If no dial tone on the
wall outlet, call your Telephone Company.
Sending Faxes
Poor Transmitting Quality
Try changing your resolution to
FINE
or
S.FINE
. Make a copy to
verify the machine’s scanner operation.
Transmission Verification
Report says
“Result:ERROR” again.
There is probably temporary noise or static on the line. Try sending
the fax again. If you send a PC-FAX message and get
“Result:ERROR” on the Transmission Verification Report, the
machine may be out of memory. To gain extra memory, you can
turn off Fax Storage (see
Setting Fax Storage
, page 42), print fax
message in memory (see
Printing a Fax from Memory
, page 27) or
cancel a delayed fax or polling job (see
Checking and Cancelling a
Scheduled Job in Memory
, page 34). If the problem continues, call
the Telephone Company to check your phone line.
Vertical Black Lines When
Sending
If the copy you made shows the same problem, your scanner is dirty.
