LOW OIL PRESSURE:
The standby generator unit is equipped with a Low Oil
Pressure (LOP) switch. The contacts of the switch are
normally closed (NC) and are held open by engine oil
pressure during engine operation. Should the engine oil
pressure drop below 8 psi, the switch contacts will close.
This completes a circuit to ground on
Wire #85
. When the
CMA senses this ground, it shuts the engine down and
displays
“FC_2”
on the unit control panel.
NOTE
: If so equipped, the CMA simultaneously
signals the remote LED to flash in a sequence of
two blinks and displays “Low Oil Pressure” on the
Statstation™ screen as well.
The following sequence of events takes place during the
first 10 second interval after engine startup:
• LOP switch is normally closed (NC).
• CMA bypasses LOP switch for several seconds
during initial cranking.
• LOP switch opens when engine produces oil
pressure.
• CMA senses that the engine is running by
monitoring frequency on
Wire #E1
and
Wire #E2
.
• After CMA senses engine is running, it looks for a
ground on
Wire #85
.
• If
Wire #85
is grounded, CMA shuts engine down
and displays
“FC_2”
at the control panel.
To remedy a low oil pressure condition, fix any obvious
oil leak and/or add the recommended oil to the
FULL
mark on the dipstick.
• Reset the fault code detection system (See
“Resetting The Fault Code Detection System” on
page 20)
.
• Start the generator (See “Manual Operation Test
(No Load)” on page 61) and listen for any
abnormal sounds that might indicate a
mechanical failure.
If a low oil pressure condition still exists:
The engine will start and shut down after about 10
seconds and the control panel monitor will display
“FC_2”
again.
Test 1
Measure for Short-To-Ground
1. Select
OFF
at the SYSTEM switch.
2. Remove the 15 Amp fuse.
3. Remove utility voltage.
4. Gain access to CMA board ( See “Access To The
CMA Board” on page 19 ).
5. Remove 8-pin connector from CMA.
6. Remove
Wire #85
from LOP switch.
7. Measure for short-to-ground on
Wire #85
(Fig. 16).

If a short is detected:
• Repair and/or replace wiring, as necessary and
retest.
• Reset the fault code detection system as
described earlier.
• Set SYSTEM switch to
AUTO.
Push and hold
MANUAL OVER-RIDE
to start unit.
If no short is detected:
• Proceed to test 2
