Disassemble Gear Reduction Unit

Note orientation of gear reduction assembly on engine.
Place an oil collection pan beneath the assembly.

Remove oil vent plug (C) and set aside.

Remove the bottom oil drain plug (E) and set aside.

Remove four screws (A) that secure the gear case
cover assembly (D). Remove gear case cover
assembly.

Remove drive shaft assembly (N) from gear case (J).

Remove four cap screws(K). Slide gear case off engine.

Inspect Gear Reduction Parts

Inspect seals for cracks, tears or hardening. Replace
seals if necessary.

Inspect crankshaft gear and drive shaft gear for worn,
cracked or chipped teeth. Replace if damaged or worn.

Inspect gear case and cover for cracks, damaged
mounting or damaged gasket surfaces. Replace if
damaged.

Assemble Gear Reduction Unit

Install gear reduction case oil seal (H) with sealing lip
(P) toward outside of gear reduction case (Q).

Install gear reduction cover oil seal (B) with sealing lip
(P) toward inside of gear reduction cover (R).

NOTE: The gear reduction assembly must be installed in
the same orientation as noted prior to removal.

Insert two screws (K) into top mounting holes of gear
reduction case.
