5 COOKTOP OPERATION
The cooktop includes four induction elements as shown in Figure 3.
Each is SpeedBoost-capable, which can be used to heat large
amounts of water faster than by using heat level
O
.
When a burner is turned on, power flows to the coils of the induction
element. As the current runs through the coils, a fluctuating magnetic
field is created. When a ferromagnetic pan is placed on the burner,
the iron molecules in the pan move from north to south and vice-
versa, causing friction, which generates heat. The heat is transferred
from the pan to its contents, but the cooktop itself will not get hot.
For safety reasons, surface elements are disabled during Self-clean.
The elements will become operable again after the cycle has
completed and the oven has cooled.
