INSTALLATION AND CIRCUIT - Drainage
IV-5-2-2: Dumping system
IV-5-2-2-1: Boat outside the water (on trailer, cradle, etc.)
POSITION OPEN, PLUG REMOVED.
IV-5-2-2-2: Boat in the water
DURING NAVIGATION
POSITION CLOSED, PLUG(S) IN POSITION.
DRAINING PROCEDURE FOR ON-BOARD WATER
WITH THE BOAT STOPPED, REMOVE THE PLUG AND THEN
SAIL IN BUOYANCY POSITION (> 6 KTS) AS LONG AS
NECESSARY TO DRAIN THE WATER. THEN STOP AND
REPLACE THE PLUG.
AT ANCHOR
-TEMPORARY MOORING, OR OTHER SITUATIONS IN
WHICH THE BOAT RUNS NO RISK OF RECEIVING LARGE
AMOUNTS OF WATER (POURING RAIN, BREAKERS).
-PROLONGED OR HAZARDOUS MOORING
REMOVE THE PLUG; THE WATER WILL PROGRESSIVELY
SEEP IN THROUGH THE MEMBRANE AND SLOWLY FLOOD
THE DECK UNTIL THE INSIDE LEVEL BALANCES WITH THE
OUTSIDE LEVEL AND THEN STOP (COMMUNICATING
VESSELS PRINCIPLE).
WARNING
IF THE BOAT RECEIVES A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER FROM THE
OUTSIDE (POURING RAIN, WAKE, ETC.) WHEN THE PLUGS ARE IN
POSITION, THE BOAT MAY FILL UP (BATHTUB EFFECT). THE WATER
INSIDE COULD THEN REACH THE BILGE AND OVERLOAD THE BOAT,
CAUSING IT TO SINK AND CONSIDERABLY DAMAGING SOME PARTS
LIKE THE ENGINE OR ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS.
