Registering and connecting the device
Connecting the device
Only connect the device when the vehicle
is stationary. Otherwise, you may become dis‐
tracted and endanger the vehicle occupants and
other road users.◀
1. "Telephone"
2. "Bluetooth (telephone)"
3. "Add new device"
The Bluetooth name of the vehicle is dis‐
played.
4. Perform other operations on the mobile
phone, see the Owner’s Handbook of the
mobile phone: for example finding/connect‐
ing Bluetooth device or new device.
The Bluetooth name of the vehicle is shown
on the display of the mobile phone.
5. Select the Bluetooth name of the vehicle on
the display of the mobile phone.
Request via iDrive or mobile phone to enter
an identical passkey.
6. Enter and confirm passkey.
7. Select the function for which you would like
to use the mobile phone.
8. Tilt the controller to the left.
If the registration was successful, the mobile
phone is displayed at the top of the mobile
phone list.
Functions supported by the mobile phone or
audio device are displayed as symbols when
connecting.
White symbol: function is active.
Grey symbol: function is inactive.
Symbol Function
Telephone.
Additional telephone.
Data transfer.
Audio source.
Four devices can be registered in the vehicle at
the same time. Three devices can be connected
to the vehicle at the same time.

After connecting for the first time
▷ Mobile phone is detected/paired in the ve‐
hicle after a short delay when the engine is
running or the ignition switched on.
▷ Phonebook entries on the telephone's SIM
card* or the mobile phone itself are trans‐
ferred to the vehicle after it has been detec‐
ted, depending on the mobile phone.
▷ Four devices can be registered.
▷ For a few mobile phones, certain settings
are needed, for example, authorisation or
secure connection, see instruction manual
of the mobile phone.
Connecting a certain device
If the vehicle detects more than one device, it
connects with the device that is highest on the
list. If another device is to be connected, this can
be selected.

3. Select the device to be connected.
Functions assigned to the device before dis‐
connection are reassigned to the device upon
reconnection. If applicable, this function is de‐
activated for a previously connected device.
Configuring devices
Additional functions can be enabled or disabled
when devices are registered and connected.
