Appendix C: Quick Start Guide
C.1 How to Use This Appendix
This guide provides concise instructions for preparing stat mux configuration. It is intended for users already
familiar with the stat mux, and for experienced users who have a good basic understanding of data
communication principles and applications and characteristics of statistical multiplexers. Use this guide with
the configuration tree shown in Figure 3-6. Once you start the configuration program, the stat mux will guide
you through the configuration.
C.2 What You Need
Configure the stat mux from a data terminal connected to one of the stat mux sub-channels. The terminal
communication parameters must match the parameters of the selected sub-channel. If you do not know what
these parameters are, or you just received a new stat mux, use the following default parameters:
Baud Rate=9600 bps
Format of Data Word=8 data bits, no parity bit, 1 stop bit
To initialize the stat mux:
• Turn the stat mux off.
• Set its internal INIT/NOR jumper to INIT.
• Turn the stat mux on again.
• Return the INIT/NOR jumper to NOR, then close the stat mux cover.
Whenever the stat mux is already installed in a link, establish communication with the remote stat mux before
starting. In this way, you will be able to configure the two units from the terminal connected to the local stat
mux.
C.3 Configuration Instructions
NOTE
Pay attention to the use of capital letters in the configuration commands. The mux will
not recognize lower-case letters.

ONFIGURATION
1. Power up the stat mux and connect your terminal to one of the sub-channels. Check terminal
communication parameters.
2. Allow an idle period of at least one second, type
@@@
, wait at least one second, and type
S
.
3. The stat mux enters the command mode. Enter the password.
