Releasing the Cutting Line
In transit, the cutting line is taped to the spool housing.
WARNING:
Before assembly, disconnect from the
power supply.
1. Remove the tape holding the cutting line to the spool
housing.
2. See "Replacing the Spool" for instructions for removing
the spool.
Correct Hand Position
Proper hand position requires one hand on the main handle

,
and one hand on the auxiliary handle
3
, as shown in Fig. G.

2. Maintain a minimum distance of 2 feet (60 cm) between
the safety guard
8
and your feet as shown.
Edging
CAUTION:
Inspect area to be trimmed for any wire, cord,
or string-like matter which could become entangled in
the rotating line or spool. Be particularly careful to avoid
any wire which might be bent outwardly into the path of
the tool, such as barbs at the base of a chain link fence.
Optimum cutting results are achieved on edges deeper
than 50mm. Do not use this trimmer to create trenches.
Fig. I
Note:
You will experience faster than normal cutting line wear
if the edging wheel is positioned too far from the edge with the
cutting line positioned over the pavement or abrasive surface.
1. To make a closer cut, slightly tilt the trimmer.
2. Return to the trimming postion by loosening the lock
collar and rotating the lower housing back 180°.
3. The tool will lock in the trimmer position.
Line Feeding Procedure
In order to feed a length of cutting line, strike the bump
cap on the lawn while the trimmer is running. This will
automatically feed a new length of line and trim it to the
correct length. A firm but gentle motion should be used
to strike the bump cap. The unit should be angled slightly
forward to prevent the guard from contacting the ground.
This process may be repeated as often as necessary. If unit
fails to feed, unplug extension cord at trimmer and lean out
the bump cap.
Helpful Cutting Tips
• Use the tip of the string to do the cutting; do not force
string head into uncut grass.
• Wire and fences cause extra string wear, even breakage.
Stone and brick walls, curbs, and wood may wear string
rapidly.
• Do not allow spool cap to drag on ground or other surfaces.
