Additional Note for Dedicated PPP:

• A dedicated PPP port will transmit negotiation requests upon sensing a

change in the modem’s DSR signal. This DSR assertion may often cause
the modem to disconnect as it receives data from the RS-232C while it is
still in negotiation. To overcome this problem, you can monitor the DCD
line instead, which is asserted only after negotiation is complete. This
means incorporating a change on the modem end of the RS-232C cable—
moving the wire from pin 6 to pin 8.

• Modem settings are also important to establishing reliable PPP sessions.
