NT Domain Services

What is a Domain Controller?

A domain controller provides authentication services to the rest of the computers on the net-
work. It stores user account and security information in a central database for one domain.
When a user logs on to a computer that is part of the domain, the domain controller authenti-
cates the username and password against the information in the directory database.

Nitix can serve as a Windows domain controller for all the computers running Windows on
the network. When this function is enabled, the Windows file server is set up as a domain
controller and a domain name will replace the Windows workgroup.

Please Note:

The Windows file server must be enabled for the domain controller to function.

Please Note:

Your network domain name has nothing to do with your internet domain name. They do not

interact and are independent of each other.

Advice/Recommendation:

Do not use the same internet domain name as your local network domain

name.
