4.6.7.8 Placement for Posterior
Knee Pain
Use the E-set:
The small round Pain
Site Electrode should be placed directly
over the primary source of pain on the
posterior side of the leg behind the knee.
The
bony prominence or comfortable
location
for the rectangular Dispersive
Electrode will vary depending upon the
location of the small round Pain Site
Electrode.
If the small round Pain Site Electrode is
placed toward the posterior lateral side
of the knee as in the first photo, then the rectangular Dispersive Electrode
should be placed on the lateral side of the knee, starting just above the
midline of the knee, and angled to the anterior of the knee, touching the
edge of the patella and running across the patellar tendon as shown in the
first photo above.
If the small round Pain Site Electrode is placed toward the posterior medial
side of the knee as in the second photo, then the rectangular Dispersive
Electrode should be placed on the medial
side of the knee, starting just above the
midline of the knee, and angled to the
anterior of the knee, touching the edge of
the patella and running across the patellar
tendon as shown in the second photo
above.
Body Position:
For treatments for pain on
the posterior of the knee, sitting with the
knee straight at zero degrees so the tissue
on the posterior of the knee is more taut,
will produce the best treatment outcome.
