4.6.6.1  Placement for Hamstring 
Pain in One Location

Use the U-set: 

Place the round 

Pain Site Electrode on the 
hamstring directly over the painful 
area. 

The comfortable location for 
the large rectangular Dispersive 
Electrode is horizontally across 
the lumbar region as shown in the 
photo to the right.

NOTE: The patient should be told 
prior to treatment when treating 
the belly of a muscle (like the 
hamstring in this example) that 
the muscle will be held in tension 
in the volume of tissue directly beneath the round Pain Site Electrode. It may 
be difficult for some patients to withstand the belly of a muscle being held in 
continuous tension. These patients may need to conduct the treatment at a 
slightly lower intensity level.

Body Position:

 For hamstring treatments, sitting upright or partially reclined 

on a training or physical therapy table with the legs straight is the best 
position during the treatment.  Keeping the hamstring in a slightly more taut 
position will provide a better treatment outcome. If necessary, the patient can 
lie in a prone position during the treatment.
