Alternative Site Testing
CAUTION
- Test results may vary if blood samples are taken from different sites or under certain
conditions where glucose levels are changing rapidly such as: following a drink, a meal,
an insulin dose or exercise. In these cases, only the fingertip should be used.
- DO NOT test on the palm or forearm if you are testing for hypoglycemia (Low blood
glucose).
- Fingertip samples can show the rapid change in glucose faster than palm or forearm
samples.
- Consult your healthcare professional before sampling from your palm or forearm.
- Since the blood flow in the forearm and palm is slower than in the fingertip,
sites other than
fingertip.
- If you use the normal lancing device for your palm or forearm, the blood sample may not
be sufficient for meter operation.
- Periodically compare the test system to a laboratory test system that is known to be well
maintained and monitored by a healthcare provider.
