Fan Mounting Height Requirements
•
CE compliant installations require minimum safe mounting heights be observed in accordance with the EN294 standard
Safety of
Machinery
.
•
All ceiling fan assemblies must be mounted so that the distance between the bottom of the fan and the reference plane is no less
than 2700 mm.
•
In the case of Big Ass Fans, the term “Reference Plane” shall be interpreted to mean: Any area which receives regularly or is
capable of receiving pedestrian traffic via ground level or elevated walk-ways (mezzanine).

Fan Airborne Noise Emissions
•
Under normal operating conditions, it has been established that all models of Big Ass Fans do not emit equivalent continuous
sound pressure levels in excess of 65 dB(A).
Electrical Installation
Acceptable Cable Types
•
CE installations require the use of shielded cabling only. All cabling throughout the system, from the power source to the fan
controller and from the controller to the fan motor, MUST be shielded.
•
Big Ass Fans suggests the use of OLFLEX® VFD (variable frequency drive) Slim (from LAPPUSA) and Belden 29501. These cable
types will meet CE standards for low voltage use if installed correctly.
Controller Grounding Requirements
•
A gland connector (also known as a grounding connector) must be used at all cable entry and exit points on the controller. Big Ass
Fans recommends the use of the SKINTOP® MS-SC/ MS-SCL grounding connector and the SM-PE grounding lock nuts (from
LAPPUSA) for the best performance.
• IMPORTANT: The green/yellow grounding conductor from the EMI/RFI filter must be landed on the VFD ONLY! They can
not be connected to any other ground or PE points in the system.
