Remove Plastic Cover; Disconnect Light Connector; Remove Grommet; Cut Wire

Open the tailgate. Slide a flat blade screwdriver
under the left side of the plastic cover and pry
it off.
Disconnect the light connector inside the
tailgate.
Pry out the grommet on the outside of the tailgate.
Be careful to avoid scratching the vehicle’s paint.
Pull the wire through the hole.
Cut the wires near the high-mount tail light, so that
you have 24” of wire from the connector to where
you made the cut. Set the cut wires and
connector aside for later use.
Set the grommet aside for later use.
