CAUTION
WARNING
• Never use charcoal that has been pre-treated with lighter fluid. Instant light charcoal can burn at
very high temperatures during initial startup plus has a lingering chemical smell.
• Use of a Charcoal Chimney Starter is recommended to avoid the dangers associated with charcoal
lighting fluid. If you choose to use charcoal lighting fluid, only use lighting fluid approved for
charcoal. Carefully read manufacturer’s warnings and instructions on the charcoal lighting fluid
and charcoal prior to use of their product. Store charcoal lighting fluid safely away from grill.
• When using charcoal lighting fluid, allow charcoal to burn with grill lid open until coals are covered
with a light ash (approximately 20 minutes). This will allow charcoal lighting fluid to burn off.
Failure to do this could trap fumes from charcoal lighting fluid in grill and may result in a flash fire
or explosion when lid is opened.
• Use extreme caution when adding charcoal and/or wood to the firebox or barrel. All surfaces
are hot and flare-ups could occur causing severe burns.
• Grill is hot when in use. To avoid burns:
- DO NOT attempt to move the grill during use.
- Wear protective gloves or oven mitts when adjusting dampers or opening lid.
- DO NOT touch any hot grill surfaces.
• This grill is very heavy. In order to prevent strains and back injuries, it may be necessary for second
person assistance to lift the side handle and move the grill.
• Use high grade charcoal briquets or lump charcoal. Bayou Classic
®
supplies all natural hardwood
briquets and lump charcoal.
• When using wood as a fuel, DO NOT use resinous wood such as pine as it will produce an
unpleasant odor and taste. Use only dry hardwood such as oak.
• This grill is NOT intended for use in a commercial setting.
• Do not alter grill in any manner. Use only Barbour International, Inc. factory authorized parts.
The use of any part that is not factory authorized can be dangerous. This will also void your
warranty. Contact 800-864-6194.
• This grill should be thoroughly cleaned and inspected on a regular basis.
• Do not use this grill without reading "Operating Instructions" in this manual.
• Always use a meat thermometer to ensure food is cooked to a safe temperature, above 160˚F.
• Always keep a fire extinguisher in the cooking area should a fire occur.
