• Supports subnetting better than RIP 1; subnet masks are contained in a RIP 2
route’s header, while RIP 1 carries no subnet information.
• When used with the
rip_auth
parameter set to a password, provides full
authentication of incoming RIP 2 updates and requests.
To use Quick2Config Annex or Annex Manager to configure all Annex interfaces
to accept RIP 2 packets, follow the procedures listed in
Table C-5 .
You may need to reset the appropriate port or Annex subsystem, or reboot the
Annex for changes to take effect. You must reboot the Annex if all the interfaces,
including en0, are being set. If en0 were not among the interfaces, you could reset
the Annex instead of rebooting it.
To reboot the Annex, using either Quick2Config Annex or Annex Manager:
1.
From the Configure menu, select the Boot option.
2.
Click on Apply.
Do not set the Annex interfaces to accept RIP 2 packets unless you are sure all
nodes on your network or internet are advertising only RIP 2 updates.
Authenticating Incoming RIP 2 Updates and Requests
To authenticate incoming RIP 2 messages, use the command line interface to set
the
rip_auth parameter to a password containing 1 to 16 characters. Chapter 4,
“Configuring the Remote Annex ,” describes in detail and gives examples of how
to do this procedure. You may need to reset the appropriate port or Annex
subsystem, or reboot the Annex for changes to take effect. To reboot the Annex,
using either Quick2Config Annex or Annex Manager:
