F-4) Shaft Seal Service:
CAUTION ! - Handle seal parts with extreme care.
DO NOT scratch or mar lapped surfaces.
F-4.1) Disassembly and Inspection:
Lower Seal- Drain oil from motor as outlined in paragraph
F-1.3. To expose lower shaft seal (10) for examination,
disconnect power, remove cap screws (45) and washers (47)
from volute (40), vertically lift motor assembly from volute
(40). Remove impeller per Section F-2.1.
Remove retaining ring (10D), spring (10C) and rotating
member (10B) from shaft, See Figure 6. Examine all seal
parts and especially contact faces. Inspect seal for signs of
wear such as uneven wear pattern on stationary members,
chips and scratches on either seal face.
DO NOT
interchange
seal components, replace the entire shaft seal (10). If
replacing seal, remove stationary (10A) from intermediate (2)
by prying out with fl at screw driver.
Upper Seal- Remove lower seal as outlined above. Remove
screws (17) and washers (18) and remove intermediate (2)

shaft, retaining ring (9D), spring (9C) and rotating member
(9B) from shaft, See Figure 6. Examine all seal parts and
especially contact faces. Inspect seal for signs of wear such
as uneven wear pattern on stationary members, chips and
scratches on either seal face.
DO NOT
interchange seal
components, replace the entire shaft seal (9). If replacing
seal, remove stationary (9A) from bearing bracket (3) by
