Troubleshooting/explanation
The controller does not receive any
travel information.
The required supply voltage is not
available.
Check if there is any voltage and that the
BML is correctly connected.
The voltage drop in the supply line is
too large.
The position measuring system must
receive a supply voltage of 18…30 V.
The sensor head is not properly
connected.
Check the pin assignment using the wiring
diagrams.
There is no IO-Link communication.
A flashing LED indicates active IO-Link
transmission. If this LED is not flashing,
check the connection.
The controller does not receive any
travel information at certain points or
an incorrect position is output when
switched on.
The distance between the sensor head
and magnetic tape is incorrect (in some
places).
Adjust the height/angle of the sensor
head. To check, move the sensor head by
hand over the entire measuring range.
Some of the magnetic poles of the
magnetic tape are damaged
(mechanically damaged or due to
strong magnets).
Exchange the magnetic tape.
Non-linearity is outside the
tolerance.
The sensor head is not moving parallel
to the tape (for tolerances see
Section 4.3.3 and Section 4.3.4).
The distance/angle between the sensor
head and magnetic tape is too large.
Correctly position/orient the sensor head
A position substantially greater than
null is output near the start of the
magnetic tape or, during movement,
the position value jumps from 8 m to
0 m.
The measuring range was not set
correctly.
Move the sensor head to the beginning of
the area of travel and perform the start set
function there.
Mean value of the analog 1Vpp
voltages is too low (< 2.4 V).
Voltage drop in the supply due to
excessive line resistance.
Use a shorter cable or in case of a 5V
supply voltage ensure that the drop of the
supply voltage on the cable is
compensated.
LED lights up/flashes red.
The sensor function is disrupted by
incorrect installation or damage to the
magnetic tape.
Check for the correct installation of the
sensor and the magnetic tape. Check if
the direction of the arrow on the magnetic
tape and sensor head matches. Verify that
the sensor head is being operated in the
limits defined in Section 4. Check tape for
mechanical or magnetic defects.
During power-on, the BML transmits
a position signal. After a short
movement, an error occurs (in the
plausibility check).
The orientation of the magnetic tape is
incorrect, the working space is not
being maintained, or the magnetic tape
is damaged.
Check for the correct installation of the
sensor and the magnetic tape. Check if
the direction of the arrow on the magnetic
tape and sensor head matches.
The direction of the 1Vpp signal and
absolute value do not match.
Check the controller configuration;
change if necessary.
If necessary, change the controller
configuration or real-time signal count
direction by swiA and –A or +B
and –B.
SSI: Resolution deviates from the
data sheet specifications by a
multiple.
+Clk/–Clk or +Data/–Data reversed or
wrong controller settings.
Check wiring or settings.
