7.1 Trouble Shooting Guide
Symptom Check
Cannot detect NextMove BX in
the Mint WorkBench of the Mint
Configuration Tool.
•
The NextMove BX must be running a version of Mint v4
to be detected. If upgrading from Mint v3 firmware then
the select ‘controller with no firmware’ from the Mint
WorkBench and ‘update firmware’ to Mint v4.
•
Check that the correct serial port is in use and that the
lead is plugged in at both ends.
•
Check wiring for the RS232 lead.
Status display blank and
controller not functioning
•
Check the power supply (24V dc) is connected and
switched on.
Cannot communicate with
controller. (cannot get
P>
or
C>
prompt by pressing return).
• Check that there is not a program already running on the
controller (type
[Ctrl] + [E]
to abort the program).
•
Check that the terminal mode. Select ‘Tools’ and
‘Terminal Mode’ from the Mint WorkBench.
Controller appears to be powered-
up and working but will not cause
motors to turn over. •
Check that the connections between motor and controller
are correct. Use the Mint Configuration Tool to perform
the basic system wiring tests described in section 4.4.
•
Ensure that the amplifier is enabled and working when the
controller is not in error. (When the controller is first
powered up the amplifiers should be disabled if there is
no program running (there is often an LED on the front of
the amplifier to indicate status).
•
Check that the Configuration file is loaded into controller
and has been
RUN
, or that the servo loop gains are
correctly set-up. (Check the Gains window or type
PRINT KP
to verify that the controller proportional gain
KP
is not zero and refer to servo-system set-up).
Motor runs off uncontrollably
when controller is switched on. • Check that the encoders are connected to controller, have
power through encoder V+ and are functioning correctly.
(Use a dual trace oscilloscope to display both channels of
the encoder and/or the complements simultaneously).
•
Check that the amplifiers are connected correctly to the
controller and that with zero demand there is 0V at the
amplifier demand input.
•
Verify that the controller and amplifier are correctly
grounded to a common earth point.
