Consult your national or state boating law

enforcement agency.

The followng equpment s the mnmum requred by the

U.s. Coast guard for a boat less than 26' [7.9 meters]

n length.

Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs):

One Coast guard

approved Type I, II or III devce s mandatory for each

person aboard. One throwable Type IV devce s also

requred to be on board. a Type V devce s acceptable

f worn for approved use. see Page 1.4 for a descrpton

of these PFD classifications.

Always wear a PFD when

boating.

Fire Extinguisher - Portable:

If no fixed fire extinguishing

system s nstalled n the engne and generator spaces,

the U.s. Coast guard requres

one (1) Type B1

fire

extngusher be on board. The amercan Boat and yacht

Councl (aByC) recommends that you have

two (2) Type

ABC

fire extinguishers on board. One is to be located

at the helm staton and the other n the cabn, near the

cockpt door.

Whistle, Horn:

you must have on board some means

of makng a loud sound sgnal, for example, whstle or

horn.

Visual Distress Signals:

If you operate your boat n

coastal waters or on the great lakes, you must have

vsual dstress sgnals for day and nght use on board. at

least three (3) U.s. Coast guard approved pyrotechnc

devces, marked wth date showng servce lfe, must be

carred, be readly accessble, n servceable condton

and not expred. store pyrotechnc sgnals n a well-

marked waterproof contaner n a dry locaton.

Your boat may be equipped with the optional automatic fire

extngusher system, located n the engne compartment.

In the event of a fire, the heat sensitive automatic head in

the engine compartment will release a fire-extinguishing

vapor, totally flooding the area.

The dashboard contans an ndcator lght for the

automatic fire extinguishing system. The light will be ON

when the gnton s on and ndcates that the system s

ready. If the lght goes out whle the gnton s on, the

system has dscharged.

When discharge occurs, immediately shut down all

engines, powered ventilation, electrical systems and

extinguish all smoking materials. Do not immediately

open the engine compartment! This feeds oxygen

to the fire and the fire could restart.

Wait at least fifteen (15) minutes before opening the

engine compartment. This permits the fire-extinguishing

vapor to "soak" the compartment long enough for hot

metals and fuels to cool. have portable extngushers

at hand and ready to use in case the fire re-ignites. Do

not breathe fumes or vapors caused by the fire.

In rainy and/or cold weather, fresh air must circulate

through boat to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

DANGER

Sleeping on boat requires an operating Carbon Monoxide

detection system in each sleeping location.

Fumes from engines, generators, and other equipment

and appliances using burning fuel contain odorless,

colorless carbon monoxide gas.

Carbon monoxide can cause brain damage or death.

Open all doors, curtains, windows, and hatches to let

fresh air circulate, when running engine, generator or

burning any fuel when boat is anchored, moored or

docked.
