Getting in and out of the chair
•
Flip the armrest up on the side you wish to use to get onto the
chair.
•
Now take your seat.
•
Flip the armrest back downwards.
•
Adjust the control unit so that you can comfortably reach all the
operating controls (see Chapter 3.5.2).
When getting out of the chair, repeat the procedure in reverse order.
4.3. Driving
You should carry out your first drive on a flat area where there is plenty
of space.
Before setting off
•
Sit on your foldable power wheelchair properly. Adjust the speed
to the lowest possible level (see Chapter 4.1). When you are more
familiar with how the Via works, you can increase the speed.
•
Switch the wheelchair on by pressing the power button on your
control unit (see Chapter 4.1)
•
To switch the foldable power wheelchair off, press the power button
again.
•
Make sure that the joystick of your control unit (Fig. 7-E) is in the
central/neutral position, when you switch the foldable power
wheelchair on, otherwise an alarm signal will sound.
Driving and steering
If your foldable power wheelchair is not behaving
as described above, do not use it and hand it over
to your dealer.
Driving in a straight line and steering
Always drive in large arcs round corners and obstacles and drive slowly
with care.
•
To go forwards, move the joystick (Fig. 7-E) forwards. The more you
move the joystick, the higher the speed within the preset speed
level (see Chapter 4.1).
•
To stop gently, move the joystick slowly into the central position.
Practice these two procedures so that you get used to them.
•
You steer your foldable power wheelchair by moving your joystick in
the required direction.
Driving backwards
•
Make sure that your speed is low before you drive backwards (speed
level 1 or 2). Remember that you have to steer in the opposite
direction when driving backwards. Move your joystick backwards as
appropriate. Practice on a flat area where there is plenty of space.
Please note that, for safety reasons, the
speed when going backwards is only half of the
speed when going forwards.
With the drive connected, braking occurs automatically when the
drive lever is released. You cannot push or move the foldable power
wheelchair, as the motors will brake automatically.
