12/13/01Configuring the Alteon 180 Web Switch
To establish a console connection and access the main menu:
1. Connect the serial cable to the Console port on the front of the
switch and the 9-pin serial port on the rear of the terminal PC.
2. Turn on the switch and terminal PC.
3. Enter the password when prompted.
The default administrator password is admin. Once your
password is verified, the Main Menu appears.
4. Open HyperTerminal as follows:
a.
Press Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and point
to Communications.
b. Select HyperTerminal.
c.
Set up a HyperTerminal session with your serial connection
(the port to which you connected the serial cable).

Configuring the Alteon 180 Web Switch
The Alteon 180 Web switch WebOS software includes a Setup utility.
Use the Setup utility as instructed in the remainder of this document
to enter all the necessary information required for the proper switch
configuration.
When you run the Setup utility, you are prompted to provide the
following information:

Basic system information

Date and time
-
Whether to use BOOTP or not
-
Whether to use Spanning-Tree Protocol or not
