The new unit must be running the same software and firmware versions as the previous unit
but with a 

different MAC address

.

If the model of the replaced unit is different from the previous unit, the unit is allowed to join
the stack. However, the configuration of the previous unit is not replicated in the new unit.

AUR can be enabled or disabled from ACLI and DM. By default, AUR is enabled.
