Periodically check the power steering fluid
reservoir and keep it filled to the proper level
with the recommended fluid. On vehicles
with assist cylinder or two steering axles,
the hydraulic reservoir is much larger than
standard to accommodate the increased fluid
volume in the system.
AXLES AND WHEELS
Axle and Interaxle Differential
Locks (Optional)
The drive axle(s) may be equipped with
optional differential locks. The single drive axle
may be equipped with an Axle Differential Lock.
Tandem drive axles may be equipped with
both Axle Differential Lock(s) and an Interaxle
Differential Lock.
Use the differential locks when poor traction
is encountered and disengage the locks when
traveling on solid road surfaces. Follow the
cautionary statements and instructions that
follow.
NOTICE
Never operate the vehicle with the
differential locks engaged any longer
than is necessary, as this places strain on
the axles and may cause rapid tire wear.
Axle Differential Lock Use
The Axle Differential Lock allows the operator
to lock the left and right drive wheels together
to reduce or eliminate wheel spin on poor
traction surfaces.
The Axle Differential Lock should be used only
on icy or other slippery surfaces, and at low
speed. As soon as the slippery surface has
been passed, the lock should be disengaged.
WARNING
If possible, do not use the Axle
Differential Lock while taking a curve.
With good traction and the lock engaged,
the vehicle will understeer and therefore
will tend to drive straight in a curve.
If the lock must be used on a good
traction surface, drive cautiously and
do not exceed 25 mph (40 km/h). At
higher speeds the understeer handling
characteristics could be dangerous.
Disengage the lock as soon as possible.
WARNING
Do not use the Axle Differential Lock
when traveling downhill. This will ensure
maximum control of the vehicle.
Interaxle Differential Lock Use
The Interaxle Differential Lock is used to
lockout the interaxle differential, also known as
the power divider, and provide equal torque to
both the front and rear drive axles of a tandem
axle assembly.
The Interaxle Differential Lock should be used
only on icy or other slippery surfaces, and
may be used at any speed when poor traction
conditions exist. As soon as the slippery
surface has been passed, the lock should be
disengaged.
