when working under the engine hood

WARNING
§
Before you check anything in the
engine compartment, stop the engine,
fully set the parking brake and remove
the ignition key.
§
Do not work on your car if you are
tired or ill, under emotional stress or
under the influence of drugs, medica-
tion or alcohol.
§
Always let the engine cool down.
Hot components can burn skin on
contact.
§
Do not spill engine oil, ATF, brake
fluid, antifreeze and washer solvent
on hot engine components, especially
not on the exhaust system. These
fluids are flammable.
§
Never touch the radiator tan
blades. They will rotate spontaneously
when the thermoswitch turns the fan
on. The radiator fan switches on
automatically when the coolant rea-
ches a certain temperature and will
continue to run (even with ignition off)
until the coolant temperature drops.
This may last up to about 10 minutes
or even longer.
