HYPERTHERMIA

Hyperthermia occurs

when the internal

temperature of the

body reaches a level

several degrees

above the normal

temperature of  37

degrees C (98.6

degrees F).  The

symptoms of hyper-

thermia include

drowsiness, lethargy

due to an increase in

the internal tempera-

ture of the body.  The

effects of hyperther-

mia include:

• Unawareness of

impending heat

• Failure to perceive heat

• Failure to recognize the need

to leave the spa

• Fetal damage in pregnant

women

• Unconsciousness and danger

of drowning
